* For
you younger guys who have never hunted Idaho before,
please provide proof of a completed hunter and/or bow
hunter safety course.
Upon booking a hunt, this information is required along
with the fees for the license and tags and a 50%
deposit. This deposit is required immediately to insure
your hunt dates. I need to firm up the year's schedule
as soon as possible. The remaining balance will be due
30 days prior to the hunt
NO EXCEPTIONS!
What you should be concerned with is that all outfitters
only have so much room and can only accommodate so many
hunters. Once we're booked up, that's it! We still have
some openings for this year, so get in touch with me as
soon as possible
On many of our elk hunts, both deer and bear can also be
shot with no additional trophy fees. The appropriate
tags will need to be purchased ahead of time though.
Only elk can be shot on the controlled hunts in Units 40
and 42.
Most of our elk hunting is done in South/Central Idaho.
The Fish and Game units where I operate are 25 and 33.
The major drainage's in these units are the South Fork
of the Salmon River in Unit 25; and in Unit 33 it's the
Middle Fork of the Payette River. This exclusive area
borders the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness,
which is the largest wilderness area in the lower 48
states. I also offer draw hunts for elk in Units 40 and
42 in southwestern Idaho.
Our elk herds have steadily been on the increase. A lot
of this has to do with cutting back seasons and the
drought we have experienced for the last eight to ten
years. The chances of getting a shot at bulls in the
300+ Boone & Crockett class are excellent. I want to
express to you that elk hunting can be physically
demanding so being in reasonable shape is a must.
Contrary to the numerous magazine articles and hunting
videos out there, bulls aren't hiding behind every tree.
Be mentally prepared to hunt hard for a full week.

We have a big advantage over a lot of other outfitters.
We go to the hills in May and don't come out until
November every year. Our summer horseback operation
allows us to watch the elk move from their wintering
grounds back to their summer range. Most outfitters are
businessmen who hunt one or two months out of the year.
We hunt around 10 months and try to make a living at it.
Over the last several years, we have become a lot
smarter trying to improve our hunter success. One way
was to eliminate our base camp and go to strictly spike
camps. We set up 12' X 14' tents right in the drainages
that consistently hold elk. This means that we don't
have to ride on horseback for two or three hours every
morning and every evening to get to the elk.
These spike camps are equipped to handle 2 hunters and
their guide. Tents contain army cots with foam pads and
are heated by wood stoves. Once you're packed in to your
spike camps, most hunting will be done on foot and the
average hunter in decent shape can handle it quite
easily. It's common for us to have a hunter get a shot
within a 1/4 mile from the camp.
You will be limited to one standard army duffel bag
weighing no more than 70 pounds, and I mean 70 pounds!
Your sleeping bag can be packed separately. I have rifle
scabbards for the horses. But you bow hunters, try to
either buy a sling or rig something up to carry your bow
on horseback if needed.

We will have two guided hunts with the rifle and three
with the bow this year. Please take note that these are
your arrival and departure dates; the day you arrive in
Idaho and the day you depart Idaho.
Your 7-day hunts are the days between.

We also offer drop camp hunts every year for elk and
deer. We will pick you up at the airport, return you to
the airport, and supply you with enough food to last the
week. You will be staying in 12' X 14' wall tents and
sleeping on army cots with foam pads. Camps will have
Coleman lights, Coleman stoves, and sheepherder stove
will supply heat in the tents. On tent will be a
sleeping tent and one will be a cook tent. All firewood
will be cut. There is a four-person minimum (additional
fees for parties under four). These drop camp hunts will
be set up in areas not affected by the guided hunters.
Depending on where I think your chances for success are
greater will determine whether we use horses or
four-wheel drive vehicles.
Hunt cost
is $1800 for parties of four or greater, $2200 for
parties under four. This does not include your general
license price of $154.75 and elk tag for $416.75. Deer,
Bear and Wolf are also open at this time and can be
hunted with the purchase of the appropriate tags and
there are no additional trophy fees (Deer tag $301.75,
Bear tag $186.00, Wolf tag $31.75). All drop camps are
seven days with a day in and a day out for a total of
nine days. The drop camp dates will be exactly the same
arrival and departure dates as our guided hunts unless
special arrangements are made. We can also tailor a trip
for you lasting more than 7 days at an additional cost.
* In
addition to the usual license and tag fees, all bow
hunters will need an archery permit which is an
additional $20.00.
You will also be limited to one standard size duffle bag
(army) for your gear. the weight cannot exceed 70
pounds! We have to pack this on horseback. We've had
some guys bring bags that are just outrageously bulky
and heavy. Don't wait until we get the the trailhead to
decide you don't need your third pair of boots and eight
boxes of ammo. Pack reasonably. All you need are two
main sets of clothes. Bags in excess of 70 pounds will
not be packed. We will weigh all bags before loading
horses. And guys, there is no need for spare riles.
Most of these areas you're getting set up in have no
trails and could be somewhat dangerous. Please use your
head and weigh you bags. You sleeping bag can be packed
separately and the same with your rifle.
